If you’ve seen this video, then you know that I have super sensitive, acne-prone skin. When I was packing for Asia and the South Pacific, I was trying to bring only what I knew I couldn’t live without for skincare and makeup that would also last me throughout the month. With being on planes a ton, (we ended up being in the air for over 3 days in total!) and with all the hustling, bustling, and changing different temperatures and altitude constantly I knew that my skin was bound to freak out.
And oh did it. After the first few long-haul flights, I ended up having a massive breakout that decided to stick around for the rest of the trip. At one point, I was touching my face and it was so dry and clogged that it felt like leather. Yuck. I brought a few different products that I knew might help, but the two that really became lifesavers for me was the Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask (with Amazonian white clay!) and the Midnight Recovery Concentrate from Kiehl’s.
Kiehl’s is a new product line for me and one that I was excited to try. I have heard about it for years but never tested it out myself until I came across one of their stores a few months ago. I immediately loved both the mask and oil and liked how they pinpointed specific problem zones that I have. Living at the beach and having acne, I’m used to having overly oily skin, but during this trip I found that it actually became unbelievably dry.
To combat the major breakout I was having, I used the mask three times a week, and then for the first few nights after each flight, I would lather on this oil after my usual nighttime skincare routine. The mask is what kept my skin at bay and helped so that it wouldn’t completely unleash its vengeance, though my skin did let me know that it did not appreciate my wearing makeup every single day (hey, it’s all about those pics, yo).
What I love about this mask is that it gives an ample amount of coverage and really soaks into the skin. It also only takes about ten minutes to completely dry, and when I wash it off my skin feels rejuvenated and clean as a whistle.
I’m a scaredy cat when it comes to oils and though I know they can be very beneficial for problem skin, I always worry that they will break me out even more so I have shied away in the past. But during this trip, my skin had never been drier. Around flight number six, I broke down and applied a thick layer of the concentrate that night after the flight and by the next morning my skin felt brand new.
It was soft, supple, and my acne started to clear up as well. By using these two products in tandem, I was able to travel without all the skin guilt that comes with it (sounds silly, I know, but it’s true!).
Have you used Kiehl’s before, and if so, what products do you recommend?
