Beautycounter Buys

beautycounter-8

I’ve dreamed about trying Beautycounter products since the day I listened to their founder, Gregg Renfrew, talk about the ugly truth about the beauty industry and all the harmful products that we as consumers are feeding straight into the largest organ in our body on the daily. The video has stuck with me and helped shape my beauty products into something that I am proud of. I finally made a sneaky purchase a few weeks ago and have to say that I am thoroughly impressed. I find with a lot of “natural” and “organic” makeup, the idea is there but the quality is not. Everything is for moisturizing more than covering, and I like a good amount of coverage/pigmentation. Beautycounter has delivered and I am so excited to be sharing my thoughts with you today!

Tint Skin Foundation. Shade: Linen.

I have to admit, my hopes were not high when I squeezed a bit of tint skin on the back of my hand. Foundations are my biggest letdowns with natural beauty and I almost always find them to be too liquidy with hardly any coverage. I was happily surprised when I saw the amount of coverage this little guy provides and how flawless it made my skin look and feel. It had a similar consistency to sunscreen (in a good way) and blended in really nicely.

Touchup Skin Concealer Pen. Shade: Fair.

I am also very picky when it comes to concealer and this one was top notch. I’m not normally a fan of pen concealers, but I loved how touchup skin glided on so smoothly and the pen only enhanced it’s application. Of course, there was the dreaded clicking game when you first open the packaging, but I was more than happy with the final result. So pleased, in fact, with these base products that I didn’t even feel the need to use powder (which is unheard of for me).

Color Sweet Blush Duo. Shade: Tawny/Whisper.

I love a good natural looking blush so I was expecting something similar with this, but I was blown away by the pigmentation in this palette. The two shades are a mix of unexpected and glowy pop, and I loved them. Tawny is a mauve, almost light brown shade and with hardly a dab there’s a flush of color and whisper is a beautiful peach/nude toned shade with just the right amount of pizzaz.

Color Shade Eye Duo. Shade: Oyster/Amythest

Like with the cheek palette, these colors are a little more unique for me than my standard gold shimmer. Oyster is a gorgeous base tint with a subtle amount of pigment (could possibly even use more) and offers a great starting point to build the rest of the shadow while also giving a serious glow. Then Amythest really blew me out of the park not only on pigment, but sheer blendability. It blended into my crease smooth and left the perfect pink/purple effect.

Lengthening Mascara.

I have a few tried and true mascaras, and unfortunately this one didn’t cut it for me. This was my least favorite product and the only one I truly didn’t like. It has great packaging with an interesting small brush head and stem, but I found the actual mascara to be much too sticky and clumpy. It would pull my skin when applying and left my eyelashes uneven. I do want to mention that I have eyelash extensions, so I only applied it to my lower lashes, but I just wasn’t impressed. Also, after only about 30 minutes of wear without going outside, it started to run generously. It just wasn’t for me.

Lip Gloss. Shade: Fig.

I could honestly have an entire blog post dedicated to this lip gloss. And that’s saying something because I am so not a lip gloss fan. But this one is incredible. I was worried about the coloring without a lipstick underneath, but it actually left the prettiest sheer that was almost taupe brown and I loved it. The quintessential lip gloss for fall, it wasn’t too sticky and had great staying power. A+ from me.

Ooooh I need to try these products out! Have you ever tried the YSL Touche Eclat? The beauty counter concealer looks a lot like it… wondering if they are comparable. Thanks for the review!

Yes! I feel like they are very similar. The beautycounter one seems a bit more high coverage to me, but doesn’t blend as easily.

girl, i just came across your blog and have been reading all of your posts, i love it! i especially love this post on beautycounter, and was nodding me head along as i read it all! the tint skin is already a favorite, but i definitely have been eyeing the eye shadow! 😉 you’ve convinced me!
and i totally agree with the mascara, although i’ve found it to be pretty longwearing, just hard to get off. i definitely have a love/hate relationship with it. do you particularly use products with safer ingredients? I would love a recommendation for a quality mascara!
it’s funny, because i actually recently joined beautycounter as a consultant and have been awkward now about sharing it on my blog, but i love your honest and fun review! i’m definitely going to have to do this as well and try to channel some of your energy! thanks girl!
