The Allbirds Tree Loungers and I go way back. I’ve had my pair for well over a year now and have carried them on trips all around the world. They’ve been worn in Los Angeles, Newcastle, London, Rome, Paris, and many cities in between. Allbirds in general is also one of my favorite shoe brands. Wondering how to use sustainably sourced New Zealand merino wool in a unique way, Allbirds was built around the idea of creating a revolutionary wool fabric made specifically for footwear. Allbirds is a certified b-corp, partnered with Soles4Souls to help support a circular brand model, and utilizes 90% recycled packaging all while making great, comfortable, everyday shoes.
I love nothing more than a slip-on, and after literally wearing these constantly for over a year, I figured it would be helpful to do a full review on the women’s tree loungers. So, here ya go!
Sizing
I’m a solid 8 1/2 in closed-toed shoes but I have a really narrow foot, so if there are no half sizes I typically size down. I originally ordered an 8 in the tree loungers but had to exchange them for a 9, which fit perfectly. The tree loungers are meant to be comfortable shoes that you can just throw on and go, so I’m okay with them being a bit loose, especially since they’re a slip-on. But the knitted eucalyptus tree fiber material is pretty hugging and made my feet feel nice and snug. I would definitely size up if you’re a half size.

My Feelings
Pros
It’s fair to say that I have really given these shoes a run for their money. They’ve been my everyday, go-to shoe for a solid year now and it’s at the point where my husband consistently says, “oh, you’re wearing your comfy shoes again.” I wear my tree loungers casually from the grocery store to a lunch date with a friend (socially distanced, of course), then love to pair it with a dress for a casual date night look. They’re perfect for travel because they pack so small and are extremely light, plus they’re great for moving through airport security at a decent speed. I would describe them as the perfect day shoe when you’ve got errands to run and places to be, and just want to be comfy. But, let’s be honest, I also throw them on for most morning dog walks too.
Cons
Times where I don’t wear the tree loungers: rainy days and cold weather. With the eucalyptus fiber, it soaks up anything and everything, so when it’s raining these are definitely a no go unless I want my socks to be soaked and to wait a week for dry shoes. Also, not a cold weather shoe by any means. I’ve worn them through autumn but come winter the material is just way too lightweight and breathable to not numb your toes in .5 seconds. While the wool sole does have nice insulation, I would definitely classify this shoe as a warmer weather pick.
The only other complaint I have about the tree loungers is that after about 6 months, a small hole began forming where my big toes are. I do have weirdly upward-facing toenails (TMI?) but I feel like with the knitted material it’s bound to happen anyway. It’s kind of annoying and the hole has only grown over time, so I’ve stopped wearing them as much recently and I’m thinking of trying the wool loungers next since they seem sturdier and can be worn in the winter.
Styling
I wanted to leave you with some ideas on how to style the tree loungers, so here are three ways I wear them on the daily.
